Engineer of KUID TV at the University of Idaho, and Sam Weatherford,
Sandpoint, stand on top of Baldy next to the educational TV equipment.
Installation of the equipment was completed today, and viewers can tune
into Channel 10 to see the results. Weatherford provided the use of his
snowmobile to help transport equipment to the top and also helped with the
installation. |
In an address to the Sandpoint
Lions Club Mon-day evening, Walt Johnson, Chief Engineer of KUID TV at the
University of Moscow, informed the club members that the Educational TV
was installed and operating.
Mr. Johnson, Sam Weather-ford, Lynn Anderton, and Chuck Piersol spent
Monday and Tuesday on Mt. Baldy completing the installation of antennae
for the Priest River-Priest Lake areas. Walt Johnson and Lynn Anderton
returned again on Wednesday to install sound interference traps. The traps
were dropped from a plane by Don Cramer on Tuesday.
At the Monday meeting, Mr. Johnson stated that good TV reception should be
received for a distance of up to 25 miles, providing the viewer can see
Baldy Mountain where the TV translator is installed. TV reception would be
somewhat poorer to anyone living beyond this distance and in a place where
the mountain is not visible. |
Mr. Johnson went on to say that
the present antennae might not be satisfactory to get a good picture on
Channel 10, but a Cut High Band antenna designed for channels 7-13 is
available and can be installed on most private antennae for improved
reception. Cost of this antenna would be approximately $13.00. To get the
best reception from this installation, it should be installed about 6 feet
below or above the present antenna and directed towards Baldy.
Mr. Johnson congratulated President Dick Anderson and Publicity Chairman
Don Engel and Lions Club member for the fine job that had been done in
seeing that Educational TV was available to Sandpoint and the surrounding
area.
President Dick Anderson stated that the cost of the Educational TV was
slightly higher than first anticipated and anyone wishing to contribute to
the fund may do so by contacting Bob Glock or Lee Mahler. |
